The original drama group started over 23 years ago as "M.A.D.B.E.S.S." part of the Music and Drama Benchill Ecumenical Services Scheme. One of the biggest productions was "Our Street" performed in York.

It later became FAB Drama, funded by Barnardos. The group then met at St Lukes Church in Benchill and performed there and also at St Martins in Baguley.

In 1999 we became independent and renamed CATS (Community Amateur Theatrical Society.  We started with a pantomime written by one of our members (Andy Galloway). We encourage our members to write for the group and some of our members have done so with success.

CATS have been producing entertainment for the community ever since. Our members enjoy group outings and benefit from our in-house workshops and training in all aspects of the theatre.

We are a voluntary group and always welcome new members over the age of 16. Since we started we have produced an array of plays & pantomimes. Also talent shows, raising money for 'Children in need'.

We meet at St Andrews Church, (corner of Brownley Road/Simonsway each Tuesday evening at 7.30pm and welcome newcomers to our group in whichever way they wish to contribute. We also help other groups as and when the need arises. CATS are mobile and we do encourage shows at venues other than our own.

We have had several productions; comedy, drama and pantomime, all of which have been a great success. So come and join us either to watch or take part. Everybody has a talent, let us help you to find yours!!!

CATS also like to encourage our members to take part in training. Courses we have completed in the past consist of voice projection, improvisation, Make-up also technical - lighting & sound courses.  We also have a junior drama group 7-18 years that meet on Sundays.
